 Runo Lagomarsino: Las Casas is Not a Home, 2008 "Det är inte centrum som bestämmer periferin, utan periferin som genom sina gränser bestämmer centrum." Chandra Talpade Mohanty En av utgångspunkterna för Runo Lagomarsinos verk "Las Casas is not a home" är en debatt från 1550 i Valladolid som prästen Bartolomé de Las Casas och Juan Ginés De Sepúlveda förde där de diskuterade sina olika uppfattningar om det spanska koloniala projektet. Sepúlveda hävdade att det var ett projekt mot barbariet, att det var "vår" plikt, från Gud, att bryta deras sedvänjor och introducera de universalistiska värdena (katolicismen). Las Casas motsatte sig denna berättelse och genom sin bok En kort redogörelse för förstörelsen av Indien blev han en av de första som kritiserade kolonialismen. Runo Lagomarsino vecklar på ett stillsamt sätt ut innehållet av den laddade koloniala historien och dess konsekvenser i vår samtid. Verket är uppbyggt av flera delar; teckningar, collage och skulpturer, uttryck och positioner som tillsammans skapar en narration. Verket fungerar som en förflyttning mellan olika historiska tidsramar och genom de olika delarna berättas rörelsen mellan dåtid och nutid. Mellan ett kolonialt förflutet och den geopolitiska samtiden, dess länkar, förskjutningar och dess motstånd. Chandra Talpade Mohanty One of the starting points for Runo Lagomarsino’s work "Las Casas is not a home" is a debate from 1550 in Valladolid where the priest Bartolomé de Las Casas and Juan Ginés de Sepúlveda discussed their different opinions on the Spanish colonial project. Sepúlveda saw it as a project against barbarism, and that it was “our” duty, given by God, to abolish their customs and introduce universal values (Catholicism). Las Casas opposed this position and in his book A Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies, he presented one of the earliest critiques of colonialism. In a quiet manner, Runo Lagomarsino unfolds the content of the fraught colonial history and its repercussions in our time. The piece consists of several parts, collages and sculptures, expressions and positions that together create a narration. The piece travels between different historical time frames and through its different parts the movement between past and present is being narrated.
